Tensions in the Middle East continue to increase, sparking global attention regarding various conflicts involving countries in this region. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is still one of the most pressing issues, where fighting between Hamas and the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) has resulted in thousands of people losing their lives. Air strikes and ground operations continue, fueling global concern about a worsening humanitarian crisis. On the other hand, tensions between Iran and Sunni Arab countries, especially Saudi Arabia, remain heated. Iran’s support for its proxy militias in Lebanon, Syria and Yemen is the cause of prolonged conflict. Saudi Arabia, feeling threatened by Iranian influence, has stepped up alliances with Gulf states and even courted Israel in an effort to stem its ambitions. The possibility of normalizing Saudi Arabia-Israel relations is in the spotlight, with the hope of bringing regional stability. Meanwhile, the refugee crisis in the Middle East continues to worsen. Many Palestinians and Syrians have been forced to leave their homes due to the prolonged conflict. According to the latest data, more than 5 million Palestinian refugees are in neighboring countries such as Lebanon and Jordan, in dire conditions. These countries face major challenges in providing basic assistance, including food and housing. In Iraq, tensions between ethnic Sunnis and Shiites have flared again, triggering a series of terrorist attacks targeting random communities. The existence of the ISIS group, although it has experienced setbacks, still threatens Iraq’s stability. Iraqi government authorities attempted to overcome this problem by conducting joint military operations, although the results were often less than satisfactory. Meanwhile, in Syria, the civil war that began in 2011 shows few signs of improvement. Bashar al-Assad’s government has increasingly strengthened its control in the western regions of the country, but dissatisfaction among the people remains. An uprising sparked by an economic crisis and lack of human rights could trigger a new wave of protests, making stability in the country even more fragile. Furthermore, the cold war between the United States and Russia also had an impact on tensions in the Middle East. The involvement of both countries in regional conflicts often complicates efforts for peaceful resolution, with each side trying to secure its own geopolitical interests. The US remains committed to supporting its allies in the region, while Russia seeks to expand its influence through alliances with Iran and Assad. The global energy crisis is also characterized by this tension. Instability in the largest oil producing countries, such as Saudi Arabia and Iraq, has triggered a surge in world oil prices. This makes consumer countries, including Indonesia, increasingly feel the impact of energy price fluctuations. The government must take strategic steps to anticipate the impact of this crisis, both economically and socially. The situation in the Middle East continues to develop and attract world attention. All regional and international actors must try to find diplomatic solutions to reduce tensions. Efforts to facilitate dialogue between conflicting parties are essential for achieving long-term peace in the region.
